Better Choices ! Wiser Choices !!!

At the Aprtment where I am staying, I came across a  free magazine NATURAL AWAKENINGS published from Fairfield, CT.
Even at a glance of thismagazine,I was spell bound to observe that really this magazine stood for creating a new world which would live in harmony with all that is created by the Almighty, for, the very motto of this magazine, as it appears on the front cover, reads FEEL GOOD, LIVE SIMPLY, LAUGH MORE.

A scholarly article by a Tibetan Buddhist LAMA SURYA DASS calls for unconditinal acceptance to reach contentment n or lives. It adds " Unconditional acceptance is not sttic, but ecstatic, vibrant, dynamically engaged in and connected with reality. The spiritual hero strides fearlessly into life's depths, faingits incessantly undulating waves, without holding back.  Unconditionalacceptance is the kind of loveJesusspoke of when he taught us to love our neighbour, and what Buddha meant, when he said that an enemy, adversary orcompetitor can be one's greatest teacher"

What wisdom these words pour into one's inner intellect !

Whether we live a life ofpeaceful coexistence with others is onething. Whether we are ableto beat peace with ourselves is the foremost thing to reflect. Once we are at peae with ourselves, and that means,to see and accept us as we are, we shall reach thegoal of contentment indeed.

So,as is found a quote from Robert Redfrd, in yet another page of this magazie, we have to make a choice and make it quickly too.

' WHAT WE ARE LIVING WITH ISTHE RESULT OF HUMAN CHOICES AN ITCAN BE CHANGED BY MKING BETTER WISER CHOISES "

THE QUESTION STILL REMAINS:  WHETHER WE SHALL BE COURAGEOUS ENOUGH TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE ?

It is not the problem of Economy, it's the problem of the way we live.

It all started last year around June 2008 ( or is it even earlier? ) when we in India heard that a few investment concerns failed, following their revelation  of being sick beyond recovery.  Sooner, we heard of bigger banks failing followed by credit crunches, cries of Help! Help! from the very financial institutions that once appeared to be greater than Himalayan Might.   The markets were crumbling and the middle class investors losing their entire savings, the  multi millionairres not losing much though, still had enoujh to complain and call for interventions from Gsovernment.    The situation in American economy was seen spreading throughout the world where we saw with awe one economy after another succumbing to the pressures.

In just over nine months, it dawned on everyone thate ?
economy of most of the developed nations, if not all, were  in dire straits, and needed an intervention unparalleled in the annals of past economic history of any nation.

President Obama  promised revival of economy through greater investment in infrastructure, spending on building roads, spending much more on education, much more on ealth insurance for the have-nots who never had anything to access the bigger rising costs of medical benefits.

Discussion in the Congress is still on and on and on and on...    A figure of ONE trillion is being talked out.  Analysts in CNN discussing how big is this amount.   Democrats and Republicans are seen negotiating negotiating, with all the sincerity in their wisdom to save America from the present gloom.

Will the pacakage save or not save?   And if it saves also how far?

It may.   But that is not our premise here.

The premise here is whether we are getting back to the situation which gave rise to all this pell mell.

And the situation that gave rise o to all this pell mell is the very greed in the minds of a few individuals who bought credit much more than what they can afford, and also another set of individuals who provided credit to those who cannot be expected to repay what they beorrowed.

Simply said, it was bad judgmen
The question is whether that was bad judgment or something more?
What is there in the system to check this malaldy?
If not, are we planning to build  systems and procedures which could bring back sanity in the accodunting standards ?
The question is not how many dollars or millions of dollars the package would contain.
The real question is whether the lpackage will strive towards bring back public confidence in our financial system.

And  if the rulers are successful in this, possibly , they would have done what they committed to the Nation and to the World.

God Bless them.

The One Problem We all Face

It suddenly dawns on me this day that we are all, without any exception, sick, sick beyond any remedy or cure.
Sick not physically but in our relationship with the rest of mankind whom we are destined to live in this earth.
The sickness is related to our attitude to others with everyone of whom we can live peacefully if only we care to do so.
But we are adamant, obstinate, clicking to our own domain, sticking to our belief systems.
This belief system of ours tells me that the other man is bad. And we are good.
And this belief system tells us also that we are to restore that other man from his state of mind and make him believe
what we would belief as the right state of mind.
And this belief system goads us to adopt means and methods as to anything to achieve what we feel  right.

Why this state of affairs has crept into almost all of us?
Why can't we change our frame of mind to even think for a while that we could be wrong and that the other man could also
be right, or at least, as right as we ourselves are.

Why not we try to begin to probe ourselves before probing others?
Why not we try to cleanse ourselves before we cleanse others?

If only we attempt to think this way, possibly this Universe will be a better place to live in with peace, harmony and dignity.

Let God give us the Courage to think amidst the darkness that surrounds.

It's ROLE that makes RELATIONSHIP happier

For the last several years, i have been talking to several executives of my own organisation about ROLE PLAY.  I have equally been listening to various lectures on ROLE PLAY by different management gurus at various levels.  All of us who talk on RELATIONSHIPS equally have a word on ROLE.  It is the understanding or the lack of it that is cause of all happiness or sorrow in relationships.  And, make no mistake, this concept of ROLE PLAY operates not only in your official role, but in your familial as well as social environment also.  I should not be mistaken if i stretch this concept to religious beliefs also.

What is this ROLE?  Every one and each one of us have various jobs during the course of a day.  These jobs are essentially duties, functions, obligations, responsibilities as voluntarily taken by ourselves or imposed on us by familial, social or professional environments.  Take your professional environment, for example.  You are an official at some stage in the hierarchy of your organisation.   You are the boss of several but at the same time, you have a boss also.  As a boss, you will have to plan, organise, staff, delegate and gather valuable data from subordinates whose compliance you insist.  At the same time, you are reporting to your superior, who trusts that you will be managing the show on his behalf.  You are a delegator as well as a delegatee at the same time.  Can you afford to talk to your boss in the same way as you talk to your subordinates? Think for a while.

Enter a familial environment.  Ram is the Head of a family.  Ram has wife and two children.  His aged parents live with him.  Now, Ram is a husband to his wife, father to his children, and son to his parents.  As a Head of Family his role is something that rules over all the rest.  Nevertheless, observe his interactions with his parents vis-a-vis his children.  What is perceptible is the difference in his ROLE.   The needs of his aged parents quite vary with the needs of his children, and it is his imperative duty to synchornise his time energy resources as to suit both.  He has to set priorities.  He has to understand what is important and what is urgent.

Me and my wife have recently been hospitalised .  The director of the clinic is a well known cardiologist also functioning as a general physician.  His clinic employs a little more than 60 employees of various denominations.  A few doctors, lots of nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians, auxillar staff devoted to maintenance of infrastructure, maintenace of building, etc. Now as a director he manages the entire show single-handedly.  At the same time, he oversees the functions of his immediate fellow physicians ensuring that they attend to the immediate needs of the inpatients, ensures that the nurses pay undivided attention to the in patients.  A lot of delegation is essential, but whether the delegation is full or exhaustive decides how far is he successful in the running of his clinic.  His ROLE towards patients, co-doctors, nurses, lab technicians, supportive staff vary .  As they vary they must all synchornise also, and unless he ensures that this happens he can never be complacent.

Now, when this doctor goes home, he attends to his mother who is ailing.  There he becomes a son who fondly tends to the needs of his mother.  Here he is not only a doctor, but a nurse, a care provider as equally a health provider.

Many of us, why ? most of us have different roles to play.  Some of the roles are simultaneous.  We must ensure that these roles complement one another, not contradict one another. And this ensures that we live at peace.

One Reason Why All the World Today is Unhappy .

It appears to me that the one reason why all the world around is apparently unhappy is that every being that constitutes a part of the world is neither happy with himself or with the ones with whom he interacts.

As one introspects, it appears to me that we have chained ourselves, become bound by our own rules, we are so caged by our own actions, that we feel often helpless
in getting relieved from situations we have ourselves unconsciously built up unawares in the past.

It is therefore necessary that to move on from this present stage of unhappiness all around one must release oneself from the shackles one has built all around oneself.

The one question one is to ask oneself is just this: what shall I do to make me happy?  Unless one is cleansed of one's own prejudices, past biases of others, one can never hope to come out of this vicious cycle.

So let us free ourselves from our past.  Begin a new chapter from today, this moment. Begin our lives as if we are born today.
And perhaps that will pave a way for a happier world ahead !

Let there be Happiness

It lies in one's nature that one must always be happy. "Sarveh Janaah Sukhino Bhavanthu " is and should be our Prayer to the Almighty. Since you and I are included in the "Sarveh Janaah" it goes without saying that when all are happy, then, I must bound to be happy.  If, despite, this feeling, I continue to be unhappy, it is a warning signal that something inside rebels against the very existence of our belief in God's ways of showering happiness. Possibly I feel that I must be happy to the exclusion of the other, that I must be away from that other and that I should possibly be happier than what other human beings like me feel. This, of course, is a senseless feeling which takes us away from God. If only we feel, we get what we deserve, and we must be ever be grateful to God to whatever He has given us, this feeling of unhappiness will not usurp our inner peace. So, once one feels that one is unhappy, the remedy is to fall at the feet of God, ask for His forgiveness. And again, and again, make a definite resolve to surrender before Him. Noble souls have reiterated the principle of Surrender, which is Absolute Saranagathi.

Yoga provides an answer to how u prepare for this Surrender to God.

Let us listen to the voice of  Sri Aurobindu

www.searchforlight.org

All our nature must make an integral surrender;
it must offer itself in every part and every movement to

that which seems to the unregenerated sense-mind
so much less real than the material world and its objects.
Our whole being—soul, mind, sense, heart, will, life, body—
must consecrate all its energies so entirely and in such a way
that it shall become a fit vehicle for the Divine.

A Prayer for the New Year 2008

Oh Lord—
A humble prayer I have unto Thee!
Make this land a peaceful garden!

Let the breeze of divinity blow here always
Let the flowers of humanity blossom here always
Let the music of love be heard here always

A prayer

Let none be denied of your bountiful grace.

Forgive our ignorance, forgive our sins
Keep us away from vices and ills
Show us the way and guide us in the path
That is best for us and pleases You the most

To make this a reality, a dream come true
A humble prayer I have unto Thee!
Give us the Strength to remember Thee !  *
And keep You in our hearts for ever and ever .*

*Slightly Modified to suit all Humanity.

The truth is .....

A bulletin flashed  in my email inbox.
It read "Doctors... bend ethics" etc.
For me, it was not a surprise as I am born and bred in a land learnt to live with such un-ethics.
But what was surprising that the survey was conducted in a developed and civilized society and the results were
as good or as bad had the survey been done in our own country.
The reasons are not far to seek.
Whatever be the compelling reasons, professional ethics demand that the welfare of the person who is being serviced
must be considered more sacred than anything else.
Truth is however different, however bitter it may taste.
Doctors who read this may say that the sample survey is not mirroring the overall standard of the medical profession in their land.
They may be right or wrong.
In any case, there is a question posed before the medical professional.
And this question is well revealed in the results of this survey.
Well..Readers may click the above for further news and views.

Change is not (perhaps) the Order of the Day.

There was a question in the Yahoo Answers ! a few days back.  The question was somewhat like this: What change would you like to see in the world around around and what you and I should be doing for that?
As I pondered over the purport of this question, I realized that it could not be the premises of the questioner that the universe with all the animate and inanimate objects within is not changing at all.  That everything changes stands accepted by all.  But whether these changes happen to the likes of all is the root on which the present question is based.  Do all the changes that happen in and around the world that lead to enhanced levels of awareness, information  and  knowledge of the people, add to the quality of human life and environment ?
Possibly changes are happening quantitatively not qualitatively.
When quantitative changes happen there is not much of a strife. But when qualitative changes arise there arises a commotion.
It is apparent that human race is divided into two distinct categories:
One, who wants swift changes.
Another, who is rebellious at any change.
We are torn between the two.
So, what shall we do to see that the two sections are bridged?
And that is what perhaps the big question.
What is the change you and I would like to see in this world.

We are More Concerned With ....

Often, I get puzzled as I find that more men and women are more concerned with WHAT OTHERS DO than WHAT THEY DO.

Secondly, there is also a conscious effort on their part, to weigh others' actions with theirs, and pass a judgment on whether others' actions are right or wrong.

To me, it appears, this is an unconscious judgment on their part, more a self-belief, that what they they think, what they say and what they do, is right, and as a result, if others' thinking, words or actions do not fall in line with them, others must be told to fall in line with theirs.

Secondly, there exists also a self-belief that whatever one does not perceive does not exist also. And, whatever one does not understand (in his own realm of understanding) does not also exist.

I keep myself wondering whether this could be the cause of all conflicts in our present-day world.

I prefer everyone (which would be an individual, a group or a nation) to allow others to evolve by themselves unless and until actions of these others infringes their own freedom.

If it were the Wisdom of God  that homo species would  place themselves in different pockets, (as they are) but none could tilt this, save an Act of God.

And let us not take on ourselves the role of God.   I am not trying to be holistic but only pragmatic.
